The latest versions of CUCM software - 11.5(1)SU3 and 12.0(1) - introduce a deeper integration with Singlewire’s InformaCast Solution that allows users to test out new capabilities such as panic buttons on Cisco phones and emergency call notifications - alerting the appropriate parties when a user dials an emergency number. It also provides a simple wizard that automates the configuration of these capabilities from within the CUCM admin interface.
For those unfamiliar with Informacast, it is a software solution that leverages network devices to provide IP paging and emergency alerting services. These advanced capabilities are commonly used to provide alerts to employees in the event of severe weather incidents, intruders/active shooter situations and medical emergencies.
Cisco has an existing partnership with Singlewire to provide basic paging via the same InformaCast software. This is available to all CUCM customers and allows users to send audio messages to and from Cisco IP Phones (max of 50 phones simultaneously). This is a free capability, with no licenses to install. Furthermore, the InformaCast OVA can be downloaded from one of two places: 1) cisco.com software downloads or Singlewire's support community. Log in/registration required, must have a valid support contract or be a Cisco partner or employee. Alternatively, the Cisco Business Edition Solutions can be ordered with the InformaCast software pre-installed.
CUCMv12 adds on to this pre-existing paging capability by offering a free 90-day trial of the aforementioned advanced panic buttons and emergency call notification services. The 90-day trial begins at the time the wizard is run (more info on this int the links below). One of the steps of the wizard is to have CUCM make an API call to InformaCast that enables the trial and starts the 90-day countdown. This video walks you through set up via the wizard. Additionally, here is the step-by-step guide to Configure InformaCast Paging Server from CUCM 12.0.
